Bottesford and Melton Toy Run
As usual for this year, the weather forecast was not good for the day. And as so often happened, it was off the mark.
So I set off to join the Bottesford toy run on a bright, if cool, Sunday morning.
On the A52 I joined a couple of other bikes, one in a Santa suit, so there could be a chance they were going too.
By the time we got to bingham, there were seven bikes in a line, lovely.
I was a little late getting to the start, so missed the Lost Riders who were already there.
Later I was told that Ken, had the throttle cable fail on the way, and had set off back home on a fast tickover,
resourceful us bikers are we not?
The ride to Grantham was a really nice one, plenty of people waving and cheering us on,
Although the people stuck in Grantham for five minutes while we passed, had their whole year ruined.
Once at Grantham, it was hot drinks, and mince pies a plenty,
the trestles were absolutely laden with gifts, well done to all.
I am reliably informed that some 269 bikes made the trip,
Incredible considering the forecast, once again it proves you just have to go,
bugger the weather.
Then on to Melton, for the second toy run of the day.
A much smaller affair this one, but still 100 plus bikes.
Hot drinks, soup, and mince pies laid on for us,
and once again a large pile of toys for the children.
From here, it was back to Joe and Cath's,
They had very kindly put on a lovely stew for us.
Thank you to Cath and Julie, for your efforts,
the stew was lovely.
The ride home was still dry, and I covered 76 miles in all,
a good fun day out.
Thanks to all who organised the day, heroes each and every one.
