Fen Frolics Rally

Many Thanks To Our Reporter, Dave Wooley

Saxon Warriors Rally

The day was booked off work, and days before were taken up by constant checking of the forecast.
Surely it has to stop raining soon! is all everyone seemed to be saying for the whole week before.
We needn't have worried - As Friday approached there seemed to be a break in the weather on the way from Friday to Sunday afternoonish.
Friday dawned Bright and breezy with a few clouds but all fluffy, high and white.
All looked set fair. I was to meet Paul at Daz's drum at about 12,
Daz was running a bit late as he had been down to collect his new trailor from the paint shop just in time for it's inaugural trip.
We headed out for Newark where we would meet Malc, Ken, Mrs. Ken and Warren at 1 o'clock.
Arrived bang on time. A Yorkie bar and a bottle of coke from the services and off we sped .......
well we were ok 'till we hit a jam about 12 miles from Stamford on the A1,
it was solid until we got to the Stamford roundabout where they had just cleared a lorry which had overturned.
After that it was plain sailing.
Daz struggled a bit if we went too fast - The nose weight on these trailor things is a bit critical (now they tell us).
Eventually we all arrived safe and sound if a bit weary after a 4 hour ride that should have been no more than 2.
Any way tents up OK - Lost Riders were arriving all the time,
and eventually we found ourselves in a nice little block just right of the goal post, 2nd football pitch along.
It was about 5 ish by now and little Malc recommended the Yorkshire pudding meal from Tomo's Tucker van.
So away we went. Plate sized Yorkshire pud filled with mash, carrots, peas, beef and GRAAAVY.
Ooooh northern boys love GRAAAVY !!!!
As the evening wore on, we eventually found ourselves in the bar listening to the band,
getting slightly sozzled but happy to be in great company.
Saturday morning dawned and still no rain !!!
Two rides out were planned - one to an air show and museum, which was an all day job and cost 20 quid (that was not an option then)!
The other was to an animal sanctuary (sorry the name slips my mind just now).
We went to Tesco to fuel up and buy a stool to sit outside the tent on !!!! Still the sun shone.
Eventually we made our way for a refreshing afternoon Guiness or two, or three or was it four ?
I had forgotten what it was like - sitting in the sun getting slightly sunburned, hatting and putting the world to rights.
Evening arrived and it was off to find Tommy again for more Yorkshire pud. Evening arrived and the band was Camoflage !
Those of you who went to the International rally in Northampton about 2 years ago will remember them.
Very much a sing along and enjoy sort of band which most enjoyed.
Now, Saturday night the rains came again, and from about the fifth Guiness it peeeed down.
I had to get up at about five in the morning and head for the club house for some peace.
It was like Chinese Water torture - rain hammering on the tent all night.
5.30am Sunday, rain stopped, clouds broke and we could pack the tents away dry !!!!!
Thanks to all for making it a great weekend.
Stay safe.
