A1 MCC Rock Nite
Just for a change, Rod Cath Jane, and myself thought we would support
one of our local bike clubs, The A1 MCC, and go along to their Rock Nite at the
Appletree Arms pub, in Stanfree.
Stanfree must be in a secret location, as
we never did see a road sign to the place, but one of the locals had heard of
it, so we managed to get there.
When we pulled up outside, we thought some
one was having a laugh. The pub looked deserted, and we thought it must be
closed down. Then I noticed two bikes round the back, so we pulled in.
I
asked the riders if this was the place for the rock nite, yes a woman has just
told us we can put our tents up anywhere we like, they said.
Well, the back
of the pub was as run down as the front, three quarter demolished buildings,
piles of bricks, looked like a war zone to us.
But the rock nite was here,
so we broke out the tents and bbq, and settled in.
The A1mcc members started
to arrive and we got into the party mood, the other three bikers were from
Dudley, and like us they were looking forwards to a good time.
It was really
dark when the last of the campers arrived, quickly putting tents up and getting
in party mood. One, Sid, had a great jester type hat, and one really mis
matched tent, taller than me, his tent was five foot long at the most, in the
morning his legs stuck out at least 18 inches.
Inside the pub was a
revelation, I half expected chandeliers and masses of cobwebs, more than half
actually, but it was very welcoming, and had a real fire, we really were
suprised.
The landlady is working very hard to re-establish the pub as a
welcoming venue, and making a very good job of it too.
The evenings
entertainment were loud, something the lead singer was happily stating, we
already knew, but they were very good, sadly I can't remember their name.
I
think it was maybe the proper prices of the beer, not sure really, but we were
pretty tanked up come bed time, and once again we had made some new
friends.
Thanks A1mcc, great night, and thanks also to our new black country
friends, Glen Audrey and Ade, for the laughs and good company.
